Dr. Sandra Lester is the newest associate to join the Napa West and Napa River Pet Hospital team. Originally from Northern California, Dr. Lester received her bachelor degree in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis in 2008. In her final year at UCD, Dr. Lester was a student resident at the Hopkins Avian Research Facility while studying diseases in chickens.
Dr. Lester moved to Saint Paul Minnesota to pursue her Doctorate at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine. Here, she studied both large and small animal medicine while working in the large animal hospital after hours and volunteering with a local animal shelter's behavioral team. After 10 years in Minnesota, Dr. Lester decided to hang up her snow shoes and move back to the place she loves the most, California's Napa Valley. She is excited to bring her experience here and to provide residents knowledgeable and compassionate veterinary medical care. Dr. Lester resides with her ongoing project dog Ellie, and her special- needs cat Melvin and enjoys caring for chickens, reptiles, and pocket pets even though her landlord will not permit any of her own. Outside the clinic, you may find Dr. Lester horseback riding through one of our many local vineyards, growing award-winning peppers for her own label of hot sauce or trying the latest Cooks Illustrated recipe.
